Led by knowledgeable Yolŋu guides, this tour offers guests a meaningful insight into Yolŋu art and artistic practices, and the rich connections between people, language, land, and community.
Visitors are invited to deepen their understanding of the region's strong history through a guided tour of Buku-Larrŋgay Mulka, where the famous Yirrkala Church Panels and Yirrkala Bark Petitions are displayed.
On this tour, guests are invited to walk on Yolŋu country and observe the gathering of materials used for artistic practices. Visitors are able to gain insights and deepen their exploration by observing Yolŋu collect natural materials such as pandanus, used for weaving bags and baskets, and harvest the bark of gaḏayka, the Stringybark tree, which forms the sheets of bark used for bark paintings.
